If I have a choice between 1) quick and painful and 2) less but lingering pain,
I would choose quick and painful - for several reasons.
i) I can tolerate even excessive amount of physical pain easily. My mom is like that, and I guess I am just born with it.
ii) When in some extreme pain and discomfort, my senses become dull so it's easier to deal with. Like the last time when I had a fever like 3-4 weeks ago, I was practically unconscious in my bed for 30 hours and I didn't think about anything - this is a rare event. I think all the time on several topics.
iii) In line with ii) above, when I am having some lingering but tolerable pain, I try to put my body in rest, that means a lot of idle time in my mind. My mind then would wander and think all kinda stuff - and realize that I miss having people around me as I am sick and that having to go through a sickness at home alone in my bed is extremely mentally-exhausting. Again, the point is that I somehow follow the Roman belief that mind/soul is more important than body. I do not enjoy having a tired mind, and illness/pain that is not of great magnitude to dull my senses would make it happen.
Today, I was diagnosed with a sinus infection.
I am extremely bothered by some tension between my eyes, having a stuffed nose and having to blow it so often... not to mention occasional headaches - although I cannot tell whether my headache is from the lack of sleep (slept an average of 4 hours a day this week) or from this infection. I got some antibiotics for a week period, and I also asked my mom to tell my uncle in Korea who is a pharmacist.
God, I wish I had a flu instead - even if it'd be a swine flu. I know I am healthy enough (although may not be lean) to survive, even though news articles say it could be fatal. It would not last more than 2 weeks like this my nasal issue. I am so irritated with this. Hopefully this will go away in a week or two.
