I hate phone calls.
Well, I hated phone calls.
I was indifferent with phone calls until I got my first job in July 2007.
Even though my English was pretty decent for an international,
my boss at that time used to scold me for my less than expected communication skills. That job required me to talk to lawyers most of the time, especially on the phone.
I was a TA and also had other tutoring jobs when I was a student, and everything was fine. My students liked my explanations so my TA session room was full that we had to borrow chairs from other rooms. But those experience at the job just killed all my confidence in communicating with others, esp through phone calls.
So, since then, I got choked when I was speaking on the phone.
And then, I began to hate speaking on the phone.
Thanks to the tech world, I relied more and more on emails, IMs and social networking sites.
I was never big on SMS although I am a superb typist on any phone.
It was only when I was in high school that I was hot on the SMS thingy.
So, by the time I terminated my AT&T contract (I left for Verizon after this for a while until I came back with AT&T for the iPhone), my rollover minutes were at least 3,200 minutes every month. I never talked on the phone more than it was necessary for a long time.
But recently, I find myself going easy on phone calls again.
I think I am getting more confidence in discourses again.
My first job and the boss was just such a trauma to me. I have been thinking if I am not good in English, and losing touch in Korean, WTF am I supposed to speak and write?
But I realized that it could be fun to talk on the phone again.
I also made some easy calls for work, instead of emails, too. Man, why was it so difficult? LoL
Or maybe it's just that some people can connect and any means could work?!
Whatever... talking with someone for real can be fun - now that I realize.
(Of course, it's not fun with anyone... I only call 5 people regularly now, including my parents. Before it was 2, including my parents... LoL. I emailed with NR누나 and only IMed with JYK형...and...never really knew JYK)
BTW, recently, I realized that I tend to think in English before I speak something in Korea...WTF!!! How horrible is that... Korean is my mother tongue...
In addition, when I was on the phone with JYK, and I finally heard my Korean in American English accent.. WTH!!!!!!! It was hella slurry, too... If I had adopted the British accent, can my Korean accent be less slurry? Just thinking...
