Nana

Another Nicolas Cage movie.
All and enough said.
Smells like a leftist movie with the message at the end of the movie, saying that US, UK, etc are selling arms the most but they are in the UN Security Council.
Entertaining, reasonably.
Ridiculous at times.
Anything else? None.
That's the formula of Nicolas Cage movies.

I usually rent new release ones first,
since I've stopped to going to theaters unless it's something I really want, I'd wanna make up for the movies I missed using the Netflix.
But for some reason, this movie got my attention so I borrowed it without knowing what this movie is really about.
It turns out my instincts worked great on this. This was a great movie, very entertaining.
Of course, when both Al Pacino and Russell Crowe are in it, it can hardly go bad.
Both of them are superb actors, despite of Crowe's murmuring at times.
Based on the true story where Jeff Wigand had to reveal addiction secrets of tobacco industry, it was very good movie.
Well written, well edited, music appropriate (but not fascinating)... They didn't make me lose focus from the actors' acting and it worked.
The movie was very grasping. I also have other movies of very good ratings (like Star Trek, for example), but I don't regret that I watched this movie first. It was very entertaining but the movie quality was extremely high with those actors in it. I am probably a little bit biased because Bergman's house was in Berkeley Hills, 10-15 minutes from me.
Again, a great thriller.

Nana... a manga, that later came out as anime (available in Hulu http://www.hulu.com/nana) and movies.
One of JYK's readings, so I thought I would take a look at it - despite of the girly manga drawings.
Manga has been going on for years, anime also has got several seasons, but there have been only 2 movies.
The natural time saving choice would be the DVDs.
About two girls both named Nana.
First movie was better. 2nd movie hired new actress for regular Nana, and she was boring.
The regular Nana in the 2nd movie had better teeth, but uglier overall than the first regular Nana.
And they hired the Prince of Tennis kid as the bassist in the second movie, I thought that was lame.
And why are Japanese smoking indoors? Is it legal? I am too lazy to search.
But Eeeeeeww... That's a big eeeew...
It's disgusting. Plain simple disgusting. I might have to think otherwise about wanting to go to Japan if they really let people smoke everywhere like train and stuff.
It was entertaining overall though. I didn't expect anything else.
I think I am being confused with friendship between two girls in Asia with homosexual relationships of lesbians, but I think it's because I am not really exposed to Asian culture anymore than what I know or experienced when I deal with my parents.
Recently, I am being introduced to so many things that are interesting...
I guess I have leisure time that I could try new things that might entertain me.
And as long as it's something from a trusted friend, I don't mind giving a shot.
These days, I just want to smile and laugh.
I don't want to be troubled for anything now.
I know what things make me happy and what thoughts make me happy...
Who can make me happy...
Sometimes unhappiness helps, but it comes no matter what. There is no point of seeking it.
