Cinderella Man

Reviews 2009. 12. 27. 18:59
A story based on James J. Braddock, a boxer who gave hope to many Americans during the Great Depression.

I have no idea with American history, so I am not going to talk about history much.

But this is a Ron Howard movie.
Felt a little long and dragging, but still with a heartwarming sensation.
I love Russel Crowe's acting, but I sometimes need to listen very carefully to know what he is speaking... Thankfully, I just add subtitles when watching him on DVD.
I can tell that he tried to slim down for this movie. He had chubby chin in other movies, but his chin looked very sharp here. I think I've seen better movies of Renee Zellweger, but she is one of the better actresses for sure.

Nice story, about the second chance of a life and Braddock is backed by a happy family.
But yeah, it felt long and I think I am getting too used to Ron Howard's movies, especially with Russell Crowe in it.
Maybe I watched "A Beautiful Mind" too many times.

I am not a Star Trek fan.
I read one book when I was in 3rd year high school, didn't have any idea what I was reading about.
That's all. Never tried to watch their TV series nor their previous movies.

But this movie was highly praised during the summer,
so I rented it. It was entertaining.
They were being very considerate - I didn't have to know the past 20 years of Star Trek to follow the story since it was set based on "an alternate future".

Maybe I was too sleepy and tired when I watched this last night,
but I was not so much impressed. I felt like all the hype it got was a bogus.
Oh well, it was fine.

The Taking of Pelham 123

Damn.
I didn't even check this movie is a Tony Scott movie.
I am not a fan of Tony Scott. His movies are just like something Nicolas Cage would be in...
Instead, Tony Scott and Denzel Washington seem to be like good buddies.

And I am not so impressed with Washington's work here. John Travolta however was very charismatic.

The movie was entertaining while being viewed. No more. Not very grasping either.
Some parts are causing attention divergence: like a stupid girl asking his boyfriend to tell her he loves her when he was being held as a hostage.

I kinda wanna watch the original version "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" (1974). Will rent soon.
