I spent 20 years of the 21 years of my life with books.
Come to think of it,
I spent more time with books than with people.
Yet, I have never read a book like this.
“One Hundred Years of Solitude”
There were books that made me awe;
There were books that made me giggle;
There were books that made me cry;
There were books that made me stupefied;
There were books that made me stunned;
There were books that were neither interesting nor boring but gave me enough catharsis;
(ex. Fiesta by Hemingway)
But there never was a book like this.
It took me almost 100 hours to finish that book.
Honestly, I was very much in trouble during the course of reading.
Oh yes, they are intriguing family, but I had to sleep every other page out of boredom and confusion of all the names. Well, I wasn’t that confused as my friend told me he did, however, it was confusion never the less. It was just another Aureliano overtaking previous Aureliano’s death and so for Arcadio’s.
After one week of hardship of reading it,
I ended the book with laughter and being stunned all at once throughout the last pages.
Those three last events of the book really gave me the mixture of emotions that I never had while reading a book.
Come to think of it, I am not sure if I had two or three orgasms by the end of the book – those were too strong feelings that were not enough to called as catharsises or whatsoever.
The first of the last three events, “the pigtail incident” was very expected for me, but Gabo was wise enough to hide the last line of the parchment until the time when it was most needed and due to such reason, the last lines were very unexpected as well.
Ah, words are never enough to explain the orgasm I felt!!! Perhaps not a reflective story of one’s life…but it is a beautiful story over all… It was possible in this book… A great entertainment (despite the boredom of all the parts)… just what a fiction must be.
